Punit and Gurmakh’s love story has endured 9 years, and their royal-themed ceremony and modern fairytale reception was the perfect celebration of their union. After having first spoken on MSN while studying at the University of Toronto, the two had their first date in Starbucks, where they shared a mutual interest in studying pharmacy and realised they had a lot in common. The two talked for hours, and the rest is history!

Here is how they created such special wedding memories:

The Proposal:

Punit had just started a new job at the time, so she wasn’t able to join her friends on a boat trip around Ottawa – which we was really upset about. Without her knowing, Gurmakh went to speak directly with her supervisor about giving Punit the time off to enjoy with her friends.

When Punit got to Ottawa ready for the boat cruise, Gurmakh was standing at the other end of the pier with a beautiful bouquet of red roses, and proposed. It was the most romantic surprise and the perfect way to pop the question!

Before the wedding:

In the lead up to Punit and Gurmakh’s special day, there were many other celebrations to be had. Punit’s bridal shower was all about her. Since she is a Spring baby, it was adorned with beautiful spring flowers and greenery for an enchanted garden theme, which made the whole affair with close friends and family all the more special.

Then there was the Sangeet, for which the couple decided to have a colourful Moroccan theme. This meant delicious, fruity food for all of the guests to indulge in, along with vibrant decorations and dance performances. Punit dazzled all her attendees in an exquisite ivory and green silk lehenga.

The wedding ceremony:

Punit and Gurmakh organised their special day with the trusted help of their family, rather than a wedding planner, and it all came together flawlessly. Their ceremony was for close family and friends, and it was kept understated and sophisticated. With a religious upbringing, Punit had learned Punjabi at the Malton Gurdwara, so it was always going to be a special place for her wedding! They married there after its recent renovation, so it looked stunning.

Punit’s wedding look came from Sabyasachi, all the way from India. It was a traditional red lehenga, which she accessorised with elegant gold jewellery and a red dupatta. This tied in wonderfully with the red and pastel pink theme of the wedding decor. Punit’s make up, by Bushra Kakar, was a chic look, with added drama to her big, beautiful eyes.

The Reception:

The couple continued their celebrations at Versailles Convention Center, with a reception and party for 650 guests. The theme was a modern fairytale style, decorated by Have A Seat, with light colours and flowers to complement Punit’s all-white look, designed by Manish Malhotra. Gurmakh looked very handsome by his bride’s side, wearing a Burberry grey suit. The two partied the night away with all their family and friends, creating the most special of memories.

Punit and Gurmakh have a plethora of stunning photos and video to look back through in order to remember the celebrations, with thanks to photographer Lalamphoto, and cinematographer Sunny Tamber, of Cineverse. We hope you enjoyed seeing them as much as we did!

In her advice to other couples, Punit says: “Your wedding day is really like no other and your closest friends and family will put their lives on hold, some will travel across the world just to be with you. Make the most of every moment and you won’t regret a thing!” We wish them all the best for the future and expect their love story to endure.
