The beautiful city of Goa was a Portuguese colony until 1961, and so still has many stunning churches from this era that stand tall and glisten in the tropical heat. These places of Christian/Catholic worship are individually known for their unique structural features, with Goa’s church collection declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986, attracting visitors from all over the world. So, where’s better for a fairytale wedding ceremony in a magical venue?
If you’re a religious couple looking to marry in one of the few grand Christian churches that exist in India, then Goa is your hotspot. If you’re a couple that has a taste for culture and history, then this is also the place for you.
We’ve teamed up with talented photographer, Romesh Dhamija, to give you some venue inspiration from our two favourite churches in Goa for weddings:
1. Chicalim Church, South Goa
In the beautiful village of Chicalim you’ll find a 17th Century church dedicated to St. Francis Xavier, and it is one of the oldest churches in Goa. This cultural and historical building can be transformed into the most magical venue for your ceremony.
Just look at the gorgeous pictures from Radhika & Prashant’s big day in this exquisite church, photographed by Romesh Dhamija. The grandeur of this ceremony venue helped to make this love story an authentic and timeless one!
2. Verna Church
The Holy Cross Church is situated in the village of Verna, and dates back to 1612. This parish church has a beautiful facade, and an even more elegant interior.
Below you can see the stunning photos taken by Romesh Dhamija of Nisha and Reynold’s wedding. This couple are Catholics and so opted to have a traditional white wedding in the same beautiful church in Verna where Reynold’s parents got married decades ago.
Thanks to these wonderful photos from Romesh Dhamija, we hope you’ve been inspired to consider getting married in one of Goa’s most beautiful churches. These photos have been taken inside two of our favourite sacred buildings in the area, from the most magical of real weddings. So, for Christian and Catholic ceremonies, whether you live in India or are looking for a beautiful destination weddings, these two churches really have it all.
