My Best Friend & Me is one of the most sought-after retail exhibitions in New Delhi, hosting two main events in March and August every year. With the first edition of 2018 around the corner on the 30th of March, we thought we’d give you the low down on the husband and wife team who organise the show and the trendy designers you can fill your closet with.

Launched originally by Dipali Sarin and Sunaina Nagar, two best friends—no surprise where the name came from—who started this accessories exhibition as a small venture from their homes in 2011. The idea was to bring in fresh trendy accessories from other markets that were not available in Delhi. “We started with wine and cheese evenings at our homes and by 2013 we were participating in bigger events like DCWA and Jashan” recalls Sarin. Soon after Nagar went on to focus on the Mumbai based and much-loved accessories brand Aquamarine.

After some persuasion, her other best friend—who also happened to be her husband—Anubhav Bhasin, stepped in. “That, in a nutshell, is the story behind My Best Friend & Me and when my husband joined the name still applied so I stuck with it. And before you ask, the best friend is still one today!” says Sarin with a laugh.

The couple has been a match to reckon with and have turned My Best Friend & Me into a must-visit sartorial event of the month be it the spring or fall edition. At their show you will find “affordable luxury products, the summer show focuses more on pre-function occasions, destination weddings, and Indo-Western styles while the fall show is more festive and bridal,” says Sarin.

What will you find? well for one, this is a highly curated show, with only 50 stalls, thus the brands that showcase are unique and often not available in Delhi making this event even more coveted for its exclusive offerings. “We strive towards affordable luxury, 70 percent of the show is in the Rs.5,000 to 15,000 thousand category. About thirty stalls are focused on clothes and the rest are exhibitors accessories, makeup, food, stationery, and little quirky things. There’s something for everyone,” according to Dipali, especially true she says of the Muchtoluv stall.  Here you can expect to find semi-precious and costume jewellery. This on point brand is really popular for their versatile range, particularly their pieces for destination weddings.

It gets better yet, as you get to rub shoulders with royalty turned designers like Kamini Singh of Rose Tree, or Jaykirti Singh, who’s known for her one-of-a-kind block prints are a huge demand and thus a regular feature on the show. “Delhi based Kamini Singh does beautiful gota on cotton and mull mull, the kind of style that is timeless and Jaykirti’s customised block prints are unique, you won’t find anywhere else in the city since she is based in Jaipur.” There are also new brands every year, giving the exhibit a shake-up, so you never know what you find, the currently popular high-end accessories brand from Mumbai Muchtoluv will be a feature this year, as will the trendy Basanti Kappda Aur Koffee. “We take labels and designers from across India, they are not your run of the mill, some you won’t even find at other shows in the city which, makes our show novel, both to consumers and participants” add Dipali.

A former makeup artist and stylist, Dipali, clearly has a finger on bridal trends, so we couldn’t end without asking for a tip for the summer season:  “it’s all about cool cotton and mull mull this season. Think clean soft looks with hints of metallic. When it comes to your face, it’s all about the glow, shimmer on the lids and cheekbones, play with light pinks and nudes.”

But of course, we keep the best for last, Zankyou India is collaborating with My Best Friend & Me and will be a part of the exhibition on the 30th of March. We hope to see you there!
