In Spring 2012, Romit met his future wife in Chicago through mutual friends, where they were both at college. He got her number to ask her to join him for a game of squash, although they never actually played it! They got to know each other that Spring and Summer and fell in love. Their first date was at Signature Room, which is situated on the 95th floor of the Hancock Tower, with the most romantic views of Chicago city.

The Proposal…

After four years of a flourishing relationship, Romit proposed on top of the Smith Tower in Seattle. It was the perfect surprise in a location that means a lot to the couple. He invited their friends to the occasion, and once they were all on top of the historical building, Romit got down on one knee with a beautiful ring. Once Gayatri had said yes, more friends poured in to surprise her! It was an unforgettable engagement enjoyed by all.

The Wedding Planning…

After a successful pre-wedding shoot in Seattle with local photographer, Sullivan & Sullivan Photography , the couple could get started on the busy wedding planning process. Romit designed a wedding website from scratch, so that all the guests could stay updated with the wedding details, and the couple sent Save the Date fridge magnets from Minted to all close friends and family, which gathered momentum for the exciting events to come!
For their wedding photography, Romit and Gayatri knew exactly who to call. Reflexion by Nishchay Shinde is a talented photography company that preserve special moments through their artistic lens – and Nishchay went to college with the couple back in Chicago, so having him as their photographer was a wonderfully personal experience.

The Venues…

The couple chose to have their wedding ceremony in Hotel Sheraton Grand, in Pune. This luxury hotel takes care of everything, so Romit and Gayatri could relax knowing that their special day was in good hands. With space for up to 2000 guests and 177 guest rooms, a wedding here can certainly be a ‘grand’ affair! They have in-house florists who are experts in adorning the Hotel’s event spaces with beautiful flowers, and also provide their own, award-winning chefs who can tailor the menus according to each couple’s tastes.

For their reception, the couple chose The Lalit, in Mumbai. It was the perfect venue – with an ultra-modern feel. The Lalit Mumbai has a Majestic Ballroom and eight smaller venues, along with the landscaped Lalit Plaza for outdoor events. They also have a team of professional event planners, who could aid Romit and Gayatri with everything from the customized menus to the décor and audio-visual technology.

The Wedding Outfits…

Gayatri looked dazzling in all of her wedding functions, in a variety of bright colours and beautifully embroidered sarees from various places. One saree was Chantilly Lace all the way from Singapore, and another was banarasi silk from Pallod Creations, in Pune. The wedding saree was an exquisite 9-yard Paithani from Peshwai, also in Pune. Guyatri’s  wedding lehenga was from Delhi, and the lovely deep burgundy reception dress came from Izzumi Mehtaa couture designer in Mumbai.

With beautiful make up by Amrit Kaur and a stunning collection of jewellery collected as family hierlooms over the years, no-one could take their eyes off Gayatri! Her lucky husband-to-be and family wore sherwanis from Kora in Mumbai, and Romit’s reception suit was an elegant Hugo Boss number.

The Honeymoon…

After a fantastic wedding, filled with extravagance, colour, joy, love and dancing, the two lovebirds went on to enjoy magical honeymoon memories.  Right after the wedding Romit had to fly to Hyderabad for work so Gayatri decided to go with him! They stayed at the wonderful Taj Falaknuma Palace, where they got to relax after the wedding bustle and eat some amazing ramadan food.
South Africa was the best of both worlds for the couple, because they were able to try new foods and culture while also experiencing the wonders of nature and safari. We wish the couple eternal happiness in their lives as husband and wife – their wedding truly was a spectacle, with beautiful photos to keep as fond memories!
