When it comes to the wedding dress search, every bride is looking to feel unique yet traditional. For 2018 brides, look no further than Kamaali Couture. In our exclusive interview with the co-founders themselves, you can discover what makes this new Spring/Summer 2018 collection so special.

Sister duo Kamaali and Shruti Mehta are a designer force to be reckoned with. Their brand is known for producing timeless designs, year by year, with a modern aesthetic and intricate embroidery. When asked to describe the brand in a few words, Kamaali went for “chic and contemporary” but with “Indian sensibilities”. Just have a look at their amazing designs for yourself!

This exquisite collection is influenced by Indian heritage and landscape, as Kamaali recently visited the jungle and forest there for some artistic inspiration. As you can see in the campaign photos, the natural world is emanated through stunning embroidery and floral motifs.

“I am a big believer in good silhouettes“, added Kamaali, “good silhouettes that complement young Indian bodies.” The Kamaali Couture bride is fashion-forward with youthful elegance, with the confidence to show off her beautiful figure. Adding volume to the gown by using peplum or fishtail styles accentuates the curves and the grandeur of the overall look.

The thing that Kamaali admits she loves most about her work is the “gratifying experience of seeing brides look beautiful in my creations”. An extreme amount of love and care goes into creating each piece, so when asked about her favourite dress of the collection, Kamaali struggled to answer! “They are all my babies”, she laughed. You can be sure that any dress you choose from this collection will feel special and unique, with a luxury handmade quality.

What made you decide to focus on bridal gowns rather than the traditional lehenga for Indian Brides? We asked. “Our focus on figure-hugging silhouettes means that we can do much more with a gown,” said Kamaali, who has incorporated Western styles such as the backless dress or the mermaid structure into her designs, but with an Indian twist. With the modern, international trend of the bridal gown, their designs can be a contemporary canvas upon which they can add traditional Indian touches like embellishments and embroidery. It’s the perfect blend.

This really is a fashion-forward collection of designs, and when asked about her predictions for coming trends, Kamaali was certain that bridal looks will continue to favour figure-hugging silhouettes as well as incorporating a new and bold feathered look in 2018/19 collections. Well, it’s safe to say that this collection is pretty much there already, with sexy silhouettes and on-trend fringes, tassels and embroidery. We hope you’ve fallen in love with Kamaali Couture as much as we have!
