Remina Sidhu met her future husband, Bhavjit Thandi, through mutual friends a couple of years ago. Things fell into place perfectly, and they fell in love. Their wedding, for over 800 guests in Surrey, British Colombia, was an extravagant celebration of their union, with a regal maharaja and maharani theme.

The Proposal:

Remina and Bhavjit got engaged in the magical city of New York, a surprise trip planned by Bhavjit for Remina’s birthday. He went to her house at 12am and told her to pack her suitcase, and Remina was so surprised and taken aback by the gesture that she never even considered that he would propose during the trip.

Whilst enjoying a city trip with a photographer through the iconic Times Square, Bhavjit popped the question to his future bride. “It was beyond perfect!” remembers Remina. From their first date meeting up for an Italian brunch, to getting everything sorted for their wedding, it’s been a beautiful journey!

Choosing The Date:

Remina and Bhavjit were soon to embark on an extensive planning process, to prepare for the preparty, the ceremony and a reception for over 800 guests!

The first thing for them to think about was the date, as with so many guests and family members that have school or work commitments, they needed to get a specific date out there in everyone’s diary. The date was also really important for sorting out their desired venue and wedding vendors, luckily it was smooth sailing as all the services they wanted to book were available for their date.

The Outfits:

What was perhaps most exciting about Remina and Bhavjit’s wedding preparations was that they decided to fly to India, from their home in Canada, to get customised and tailored wedding outfits. This meant that the couple wore unique outfits that were personal to their own tastes.

Rather than wearing a traditional red bridal lehnga, the couple decided to go with a coordinated pastel palette, followed by a black tie theme for the reception. Once they had their tickets to India booked, they did a lot of thinking about how to incorporate their family’s outfits to match. Remina’s ceremony outfit was designed by her brother in New Dehli, and her reception dress was bought closer to home from Wellgroomed in their hometown. Bhavjit’s ceremony attire was also fitted in India, and his reception suit was designed by Harry Rosen.

The trip to India was both an incredible experience as well as a big success. It formed part of their journey as a couple making new memories, as well as ensuring they looked the part for their grand wedding day.

The Big Day:

Remina and Bhavjit’s preparty celebrations took place at Crown Palace Banquet Hall, their wedding ceremony at York Centre Gudwara, and their reception at Aria Banquet Hall, all located in and around their hometown of Surrey, British Colombia in Canada.

The theme for the celebrations was a colourful royal maharani theme, creating a decadent, stunning atmosphere, evocative of the vibrancy they experienced when travelling back to India. Delta Wedding Centre were on hand to help with the decorations, and everything else fell into place with the help of family. Remina’s mother took hold of the wedding planning and logistics of the day, enabling the couple to fully enjoy the process with less stress.

This is what helped to make their wedding so special, the amount of help and love shared between the two families, and the fact that Remina and Bhavjit were able to celebrate with so many family and friends who had travelled to be there.

Advice From The Happy Couple:

Remina’s advice to other brides would be to “accept help from others when offered, wedding planning is not an easy task especially when it is a large-scale wedding. We were grateful to have both our families help out so much.”

The two also realised that time flies quickly, from the moment that they started to the planning to then sitting at home looking back over their album of all the memories created – so take each day as it comes and enjoy the process! “And remember that as stressful as it is, this wedding is for you and your partner, so enjoy the planning and months leading up to the wedding. Share the stress by delegating the workload to others!” adds Remina.
