The First Meeting:

Ronnie Jagday first laid eyes on his future bride, Shirin Sharifikhah, in a Las Vegas night club five years ago. Shirin admitted that she was shy at first, because she had just gotten braces. But Ronnie thought it was cute, so they danced the night away together and the rest is history.

Ronnie and Shirin’s first date was in the romantic Cactus Club on Marine Drive, northern Vancouver, where they got to know each other better. Although Ronnie was living in San Francisco at the time, and Shirin in Vancouver, their new love meant that they travelled to see each other at weekends.

The Proposal:

“It was the most perfect proposal“, remembers Shirin. The couple started a romantic trip in New York and headed to Paris. “It was New Years Eve  and I was suspecting a proposal in Paris, but Ronnie felt I knew something and it didn’t feel like the right time for him.” So, much to Shirin’s disappointment, Ronnie didn’t propose that night, and even rubbed it in by clapping at other couples and saying, “man I am never getting married!“.

Ronnie and Shirin’s travels continued from Paris to Barcelona, Venice, Florence and lastly, London, where they have close cousins. By the evening-lit River Thames in central London, Ronnie finally proposed in front of close family and friends, it was an ecstatic moment for the couple and everyone celebrated together in style.

The Wedding Destination:

Ronnie and Shirin chose to get married in Cancún, Mexico. This beautiful destination is situated on the Yucatán Peninsula, caressed by the warm crystal waters of the Caribbean Sea. Cancun is a popular destination for many reasons: amazing hotels, food, views and of course, its nightlife.

The couple celebrated their special day with 150 guests in the luxury Moon Palace Resort, who provided an exquisite location, stylish accommodation and  award-winning catering. They said their vows with a romantic sunset backdrop, and then ate and danced with their loved ones under the stars.

Looking the part:

Shirin made the most beautiful bride in a striking red lehenga with gold embellishments and jewellery, which came from Wellgroomed. The bold red colour of Shirin’s gown and her bridesmaid’s dresses contrasted beautifully with the soft pink palette that she had organised for the decoration of her wedding, with pale pink being her favourite colour. The same theme went for the flowers, provided by Latin Asia. These soft tones tied in perfectly with the dusky, pastel tones of the sun setting around them, making for a picture-perfect occasion.

Shirin paired her dress with gorgeous Christian Loubutain shoes, and had her flawless hair and make-up done by Gurveen Gill, from Bellefemme Studios. Ronnie’s outfit and accessories were designed by Jason Surai, which made for a handsome groom to suit a stunning bride.

Perfect Planning:

This dreamy wedding in Cancún was planned to perfection by Melba from Mi Tierra Holidays in Vancouver, who organises destination weddings for jet-setting couples looking to say their vows somewhere paradisiacal.  The planning process took just over a year, and the couple spent $150k in total.

It wasn’t all easy, though. The biggest challenge the couple faced when planning their wedding was the threat of bad weather. Their whole event was set to be outside, but the forecast predicted rain for a whole two weeks in the lead up to the special day. But thankfully, the sun shone!

Special Memories:

With all of this effort having gone into such a big celebration of love in sunny Mexico, you can expect Ronnie and Shirin’s wedding to have been spectacular. “For me, the fireworks made the event really special”, says Shirin, who also recalls her Dad giving a beautiful speech that touched her heart. Their wedding playlist varied from Stand By Me by Ben E. King, to Diamonds by Rihanna, allowing for lots of happy tears and laughter!

These special memories were captured beautifully through Ellen Ho’s lens, a talented wedding photographer from Hong Photography who travelled with Ronnie and Shirin to their destination. Now the couple have these stunning photos that will allow them to look back on the best day of their lives.

After the wedding, Ronnie and Shirin enjoyed honeymoons in Ibiza, Toronto, London and Madrid. Let’s hope that their amazing love story continues to transcend borders!
